We strive to keep you informed about the latest Medicare news. Each month, we recap the top information you need to know about recent developments in the Medicare industry. This month, we cover Medicare Advantage’s enhanced non-medical 2020 benefits, the Annual Enrollment Period and the basics of telemedicine.
Medicare’s Annual Enrollment Period Is in Full Swing
As you’ve probably noticed, fall has arrived and brought with it changing leaves and cooler temperatures. But that’s not all this season has to offer – it’s also Medicare’s Annual Enrollment Period!
If you are a client, our team has likely reached out to you regarding your current plan. As a reminder, if you’re already enrolled in Medicare and your needs have changed, December 7 is the cutoff date to take action regarding your 2020 plan. If you are happy with your current plan, no action is required and your current coverage will continue into next year. We thank our clients for continuing to choose RetireMEDiQ!
If you are not a current client and are either new to Medicare or looking to compare your Medicare plan options with a trusted advisor, you can reach our team at 1-866-600-5638 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Telemedicine: How Will This Affect You in the Future?
You may have heard the terms “telemedicine” or “telehealth benefits” in the news recently, and you’ll continue to hear about them as more health plans and physicians are providing these services.
So, what exactly is telemedicine?
The Oxford Dictionary defines telemedicine as “the remote diagnosis and treatment of patients by means of telecommunications technology.” An example of this is using video conferencing to meet with a physician.
In a press release earlier this year, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said, “These additional telehealth benefits offer patients the option to receive health care services from places like their homes, rather than requiring them to go to a healthcare facility.”
Medicare Advantage’s Enhanced Benefits for 2020 Plans
We’ve covered the non-medical benefits Medicare Advantage Plans are featuring since this shift in coverage began at the end of 2018, and these benefits have continued to expand since then. As you look at health plans for 2020, you will be able to choose from plans with benefits like transportation to the grocery store or church, grocery delivery and pest control.
Other 2020 benefits include carpet shampooing and air filter replacements for patients with asthma, alternative medicine like acupuncture and massage therapy and health and fitness devices.
These additional perks are possible because the federal government is becoming more flexible about providing supplemental benefits that address the social and environmental factors that can harm health, especially in patients with chronic illnesses.
The changes in types of benefits offered by these plans are beginning to close the gap between what Medicare covers and what it does not and mark a shift toward preventive care rather than reactive care.
We’d Love to Hear from You!
