Are You Taking Advantage of Your Plan’s Fitness Program?

By RetireMEDiQ

Regular exercise is an important ingredient to part of a healthy lifestyle. According to a study by Healthways, routine use of a fitness program “may help to slow or reverse natural trajectories toward declining health and functioning.” It warns that a lack of physical activity can contribute to the increased risk of chronic diseases. In addition to physical benefits, the study also found that individuals who participate in fitness programs report lower levels of “poor mental health,” including stress, depression and emotional problems. And of course, good health means fewer trips to the doctor!

Get Fit with Medicare

Many Medicare plans include fitness programs, which make it easy for members to stay in shape by offering gym memberships at no cost or at a discounted rate. One common example you may recognize is a fitness program called SilverSneakers. There are many similar fitness programs available, depending on what type of health plan you are currently enrolled in.

What Do Fitness Programs Include?

The specific features of your fitness program will depend on your health plan, but most programs typically include:

  • A gym membership
  • Access to exercise equipment
  • Fitness classes at a variety of locations
  • Community events

Bottom Line: Medicare fitness programs are a fun and efficient way to maintain a healthy lifestyle!

Thanks for a reminder of your services. I did have questions about my husbands coverage for his prostate cancer but never thought of calling you. I called ins company and all seemed to go ok. I am sure you would have been most helpful.

Yes, I try to go to the gym on Tuesday, Thursday & Sat. am & have been doing if for years. I was paying for it myself when someone asked me to check my insurance to see if it had “Silver Sneakers” & I did & found that it covered my membership costs. My wife’s insurance also has “Silver Sneakers” so we are saving quite a bit.
