Does Original Medicare Cover Hearing Aids?

Original Medicare includes Medicare Part A and Part B. Generally, Original Medicare has limited hearing coverage.

Hearing and balance exams are covered if you need to be treated for a medical condition. But Original Medicare will not cover routine hearing exams and will not pay toward hearing aids.

Hearing Coverage on Medicare Advantage Plans

Medicare Advantage (MA) plans must cover benefits offered by Original Medicare and often include extra coverage and benefits. Some MA plans offer coverage on hearing exams and hearing aids. On plans that offer extra hearing coverage, you typically pay a copay for the fitting exam and a copay for each hearing aid. Plans will typically pay up to a certain dollar amount toward the hearing aids each year. You can find these details in your Summary of Benefits document.
